Hello ! I'm new & got questions on Finnish MAZ537

Hi Richard! Can´t promise anything but I try. It´s past midnight here and I´m doing my own T-34 and I´m little drunk… friday night and vacation… you know. ;)
Ok: magazine was Mallix 3/2008. It says, that first MAZ was simple one shade of green, russian "camo", as said in Mallix. Trailers colour differs from the MAZ itself, exact shade of green is unknown but trailers were lighter and brighter than truck but in the end all MAZ were painted with finnish camo. There´s no info about reference colours you should use to paint MAZ but I think our experts in forums can give you info about this. Your model is mid version used by Finland and it´s register markings shoud be Ps 850-6 - Ps 850-9, Ps 860-6 - Ps 860-9. These were used between 1977 and 1993. Hopefully this will get your project to start. There is an finnish book about vehicles used in FAF during 1960-2000 and surely is pic´s about MAZ.
Here´s link for that book I mentioned above: www.pienoismalli.com/wwhi_ap.htm
It is sold on website of our other modelling mag, called: Pienoismalli (Scale model). They have online book store on their website, scroll down the page to find right book. (Finnish Army Motor vehicles, in Finnish only, sorry)

Can you help with the colors of the camouflage ? Black/Green/Brown is that alright ?
Hi. I hope this site helps you to choose right colors to your project.
images.google.fi…w=129&prev=/images%3Fq%3Dsuomalaiset%2Bnaamiomaalit%26um%3D1%26hl%3Dfi
It's finnish too, but i hope it helps you little.
BTW "osaa" means parts and those instructions are only for Humbrol.

Can you please also post some pictures of the BMP1sin finnish service ?

I saw Finland has MLRS, do you know if these Roccket Launchers were ever transported by the MAZ the Finnish army had ???
BMP 1K (K = command version) pictures… www.pienoismallit.net/galleria/referenssi_32/

Finland bought some MLRS last year…if I remember correct. They were never transportet by MAZ. Some pictures… www.ipmsfinland.org/index.php?option=com_smf&Itemid=61&topic=107.0

Hello Richard and welcome to the site. Ca va? Excellent that the non-finnish speakers start to find this site. There are several true experts lingering here, who are keen to share any information on Finnish (and other) topics. Perhaps you could recommend similar sites in France, so that we in turn could visit them to find info on French topics?

Just to help you on the colour range, here's the translation of relevant bit of the site Kristian hinted:

Modern Finnish camo

Dark green AN11:

10 parts HU75
6 parts HU131

Light green AN22: HU102

Brown AN33: HU170

Black AN44: (obviously) HU33
Hi,

I really think it was a good idea to enter here, try to speak to Finnish (Suomi ? Is that an OK word too ?) modellers, and you all prove I am right !

I have written this before, but I must once more thank you all for the unbelievable amount of documents, information you supply in one single day ! VERY NICE OF YOU !!!

Thank you Tikru for the links to mil.fi, there's a lot to learn there for me !

Thanks Kimmor for the accurate summed-up translation of the MALLIX article, now I even know the register markings to apply to a Finnish Trumpeter 1/35 Maz 537 !!!! Great !!!!

Thanks Johannes F for the pictures links !!!! They're exactly the kind of info I been trying to find for weeks, unsuccesfully by myself. I especially saw what I plan to build : a camoed MAZ with a BMP-1 on the trailor !!!

Thanks Kristian Koskela for the colours to use for a Finnish camo !!! It definetely helps !!! That's perfect !!!

Thanks OH for the pics upon the BMP-1 !!!! Wonderful gold mine for me !!! that's also very kind of you to give me the info about the MLRS, that they were never transported by the MAZ. Anyway, the MLRS pics will be of a great help when dealing with my 1/35 model from Revell. I notice that the tracks sport a special pattern, exactly the same one than German MLRS (they are the ones in the Revell kit !).

And thank you Timo Nyyssönen for the camo colors translation ! Ca va très bien, merci (means : "I am very well, thank you). It was hard for me to find this site but I thought if I wanted information about finnish army and AFVs, finding a Finnish modeling site was the best thing to do. For sure I was right ! About french modelling sites, your idea is good too ! Let me give you some links to french model sites :

A very good general modelling site (AFVs, planes and others) : www.colleurs-de-plastique.com/forums/

An excellent (probably the best) french site dedicated to aircraft modelling : www.master194.com/index.htm (visit the forum, there are masterclass builds !)

Another aircraft modelling site : fighters.forumactif.com/forum.htm

You can visit these above mentionned sites and register, because just as I did in here, you can also post topics in English. Many of us can speak english and help you with french related topics. Feel free to ask me anything as regards french AFVs or aircrafts, I'll do my best to help you.

I have not managed to find if there is any possibility to subscribe to a topic, being thus sent instant email when an answer is posted, so I have to regularly check this site. In case You would reach me easily : pottier.r@free.fr this is my personal mail.

Thank you all for your help again

Best regards,

Richard

Hello,

Thanks for the link AKK. There are many interesting things in it !

I think I made my decision, my MAZ-537 will be a Suomi MAZ, and the load will be the Dragon (Italeri repop)BMP-1 in which decals are included for a Finland version !

As regards the camos, I have all the necessary information for the BMP-1 cos I have pictures of almost every corner of the beast. It's a little bit different for the MAZ, which I only have partial camo information (anyway thats a great starting point for that project !)

So don't you know of any plan or any other photographs that could help with the camouflage of the MAZ-537G in Finnish army service ?

Thanks in advance for any additional help you may supply.

Cheers,

Richard
